Jane Zhang’s “Dust My Shoulders Off” music video features various famous works of art from different perspectives. I think her intention with this video was to create a context for the pieces that have been admired for years.
One of the many famous art works that were featured was “Nighthawks” by Edward Hopper. It is a 1942 oil on canvas painting that has been very influential for many years. The painting consists of three men and one red haired woman who was apparently modeled after his wife. Zhang inserts herself into this painting by dressing up as the red haired woman. The scene looks like a painting but as the camera zooms in, the perspective changes and the characters start to move.

Another notable recreated painting was “The Scream” by Edvard Munch. It is an oil painting from 1893 and it's supposed to convey feelings of panic and horror. This makes the painting very captivating and intriguing. Zhang inserts herself into this painting by dressing up as the main character of the painting and posing as if she was the person screaming. I think this was a really creative idea for the music video and it looked like it was a lot of work.
