I chose the Amanda Martocchio Architecture Website. It seems to me that the purpose of this website is to promote a business. The website displays some of her work with architectural structures. When you open up the site it takes you straight to a slideshow-like display. You first navigate vertically by swiping up and down, looking at all the different structures she has made, then if you find one particularly interesting, you can click the left or right arrow to see more angles and aspects of that same structure. I find the navigation to be pretty unique as it is slightly animated, but not too much that it distracts you from the work that is on display. The animation is more used as a tool to make the navigation flow better and look cleaner. The color scheme is white with the navigation features and logo being a salmon toned red, although, the architecture itself adds a natural pop of colors. I find the combination of the animation and color scheme to be a very soothing and clean aesthetic. You can tell each photograph of her work was very intentional and they paid close attention to the environment around it and lighting. Not only does the website feature elements such as color and balance in the actual website, but her work itself also displays elements such as shape, form, and texture. This is something that I really like about this website. The website itself is very simplistic but her actual work adds more depth and finesse that makes it very pleasing to the eye. Overall the website is well designed and the navigation works well, one thing that I would change is the color or location of some of the information about her work. The town and state of where each structure is located is always in the top right corner in the color white. Sometimes it can be hard to see as it blends into the picture.

I used Adobe XD to learn how to create a prototype for a flower shop app and a homepage for a travel website. Adobe XD has many features including one page for visual graphics and another for functionality. I like how the design features are similar to the other Adobe apps which makes it easier to use and familiar. However, I would not recommend trying to use XD without watching a few tutorials first. All the symbols can be overwhelming when you don’t know what they all mean, but once you know how to navigate the app, XD can be quite useful when creating apps or websites! This is the prototype of my flower shop app that I created using Adobe XD. It was fairly easy once I got the hang of it using this tutorial. If you are looking to create something different, click here to learn about website prototyping in Adobe XD. This is a practice travel website prototype I made from simply following that tutorial. Both the tutorials were super helpful and went at a reasonable pace. Ultimately XD can be an extremely good resource when prototyping and there are plenty of great tutorials out there to help you learn it.
Charity Miles is an app that makes donations to charities based on your movement and exercise. This app has 4.8 stars on the app store and 60k ratings! I downloaded this app to get an accurate review. So far, it’s easy to navigate and signing up only takes a couple minutes. It allows you to choose a cause you would like your proceeds to go to. I chose She's the First, a charity that believes “every girl, no matter where she is born, deserves to be educated, respected, and heard.” Charity Miles' website is also very easy to navigate and provides all kinds of information about their cause, how to sponsor, and what they’ve accomplished using this app. So far, they’ve raised over $2,750,000 through the app. Overall, I think it's a great app with a great cause, it was well designed, and it helps motivate people into exercising while simultaneously helping people in need.

Our task was to create a logo for a made-up food based business using Adobe Illustrator. First, I looked at various, big-brand logos to get an idea of what a successful logo looked like. There was a wide range in terms of simplicity and I knew I wanted to be on the simpler side. I personally love smoothies and thought it would be fun to come up with a smoothie business. Based on the smoothie idea, I wanted to make the logo colorful because they are made of many colorful fruits. I played around with the shape of a smoothie cup and straw using different shapes and even tried making one out of sliced fruit (but that idea ended up being too complicated). These are some of my sketches from my brainstorming process. My "business" sells organic smoothies that are made right in front of you so you know it's fresh. People of all ages love smoothies, so the target audience would be anyone! The name is true to its philosophy: we just sell simple smoothies made from fresh fruit. The logo’s final product turned out great in my opinion. I personally love the color scheme and think it blends well together. The logo itself is really geometrical with the main parts being made of rectangles and circles. One thing I learned using adobe illustrator was how to make the text wrap around the circle in an arched position, I did this so the words would go along with and fit in between the two circles. Overall, this was a fun assignment to complete and I ended up learning a lot.
Ruby Bridges was the first African American student to integrate a white elementary school in the South. On November 14, 1960, at the young age of six, Ruby Bridges began a historical movement that would be recognized for decades. This movement is appreciated on November 17th each year on a day we call Ruby Bridges Day. Today, Bridges is an activist for racial equality and started the Ruby Bridges Foundation to help end racism, prejudice, and inequality. In 1964, Norman Rockwell helped in this movement by painting a piece that called out the faulted system that had been accepted for too many years. He called it “The Problem We All Live With”, the “problem” being racism and “we” being the people who normalize it and let it happen. The white dress in the painting represents Ruby’s innocence in the midst of all the hatred around her. There is a tomato splatter and even a derogatory term spray painted on the wall behind her. You can also see how she's not quite centered in the image. This represents her determination and courage. The painting faced both positive and negative reactions but either way, it stirred up a lot of controversy and questioning which is exactly what they needed to start thinking differently. The system still had a lot of work to do and still does to this day, but the combination of the painting, Ruby Bridges starting the movement at age six and continuing to this day shows how it's just the beginning.
Logos are the face of a company; a simple image that illustrates the company’s purpose or theme. Today, we will be analyzing what makes a good logo and their significance. The logo should be a direct correlation to the company; the first thing you think of when someone mentions it. It needs to be simple, recognizable, and flexible. For a logo to be great, it needs to be simple and easy to use for branding. This is especially important in making sure you can convey the company’s purpose clearly without making it too complex. A logo needs to be recognizable. Apple is a great example for this. Apple’s logo is very simple, it's even centralized around an ordinary object, however, it is still recognizable and even considered iconic. All good logos evolve over time and for a logo to evolve it needs to be flexible. Coca-Cola is a great example of this. The signature Coca-Cola script logo has changed many times over the years but has remained recognizable because of its flexibility. Coca-Cola achieved this by keeping certain aspects of the logo and changing other parts to keep it fresh and up to date. Lastly, flexibility is crucial in using the logo system: a graphical framework that allows companies to shift their logo to go along with their values. Google Doodle is an excellent example of this. Jane Zhang’s “Dust My Shoulders Off” music video features various famous works of art from different perspectives. I think her intention with this video was to create a context for the pieces that have been admired for years. One of the many famous art works that were featured was “Nighthawks” by Edward Hopper. It is a 1942 oil on canvas painting that has been very influential for many years. The painting consists of three men and one red haired woman who was apparently modeled after his wife. Zhang inserts herself into this painting by dressing up as the red haired woman. The scene looks like a painting but as the camera zooms in, the perspective changes and the characters start to move. Another notable recreated painting was “The Scream” by Edvard Munch. It is an oil painting from 1893 and it's supposed to convey feelings of panic and horror. This makes the painting very captivating and intriguing. Zhang inserts herself into this painting by dressing up as the main character of the painting and posing as if she was the person screaming. I think this was a really creative idea for the music video and it looked like it was a lot of work.
